West of Kittlitz lies the "Kittlitzer Hofsee and Surroundings" nature reserve.

With the Hofsee lake, its lowland meadows and alder groves along the Kittlitzer Bach,
and the adjacent Eichhorst, it forms an ideal habitat and refuge for wild boar, roe deer, and breeding cranes, for example.

The Kittlitzer Bach connects both natural areas west and east of Kittlitz. It flows through the lowland meadows and likely gave Kittlitz its name.

Through careful treatment of their environment, the citizens of Kittlitz have preserved this unique natural landscape.

While the reserve is a natural area, there are no extensively marked 'official' hiking trails in the traditional sense. Visitors can explore various paths and tracks that traverse the landscape. The focus is on experiencing nature rather than following strictly defined paths.

What is the typical terrain like for walks around Kittlitzer Hofsee?

The terrain around Kittlitzer Hofsee is generally varied, reflecting its ice-age valley origins. You can expect a mix of lowland meadows, paths through fen forests, and areas near the lake and stream. While not overly challenging, some sections might be uneven, especially after rain, with natural surfaces. The elevation changes are generally gentle, making it suitable for leisurely walks.

Where can visitors park when visiting Kittlitzer Hofsee and Nature Reserve?

Parking is available in the nearby village of Kittlitz. There is a designated parking area directly at the Hofsee in Kittlitz, often near the observation tower and the Dielencafé.
