After the fall of communism in 1990, the Röstfein company was on the brink of collapse. The coffee varieties RONDO, MONA & Co. disappeared from the supermarket shelves. Because the appetite of the former GDR citizens was once the western coffee brands, the seven GDR roasting houses fought for survival. Only one of them made it. Thanks to the innovative fluidized bed technology, the Magdeburg roastery remained marketable. Röstfein continued to produce coffee until 1996, but not under its own name. Röstfein was able to survive on the market primarily through production for industrial cooperation.

In 1997 Röstfein decided to reintroduce RONDO Melange. Over the course of the following years, the roastery brought other traditional varieties such as MOCCA Fix, MONA and "im nu" back onto the market. The coffee specialty RONDO Melange, refined with candied beans, is the company's best-selling product today.

The fluidized bed roasting process, which was modernized in 2002 and has since been able to roast and candy at the same time, is still unique in the world today.
