Visiting the Schuster fruit spring

In Raisdorf near Kiel there is a spring for apple lovers: the Schuster fruit spring. Around 90 types of apple grow here on 7 hectares in an idyllic plantation. From apples to apple juice, apple jam and apple wine, Doris Schuster and her family grow and produce everything themselves.

On the farm in the protected Schwentinental valley at the Rasdorfer Mühle, arable farming and pasture farming were carried out between the fruit trees until 1960. The first fruit trees were planted here at the end of the 19th century by the shipyard owner Howaldt. In the 1970s, Doris Schuster's parents began systematically building up a commercial fruit orchard with a focus on apple trees. Today, the family produces pome, stone and berry fruit. A wide variety of varieties grow on around 9,000 trees. These include the well-known and popular Jonagold, Elstar, Breaburn and Elis - about which Doris' father Ernst Schuster raves, "Elise, none tastes like this!" - but also old varieties such as Cox Orange, Ingrid Marie and Holsteiner Cox. The typical North German Herbstprinz and the purple Cousinot - the traditional Christmas apple - also have their home here.
