The castle itself cannot be visited as it is privately owned. But the ascent7 circular route is still worthwhile.

After his return from Canossa (winter 1077), Emperor Heinrich IV built his fortress in Waiblingen. In order to strategically secure these fortresses, Rems Castle was built, which was around 80 x 80 m in size. Count Ulrich II of Württemberg stopped at the castle, z. T. also together with his brother, Count Eberhard the Illustrious, Hoflager (1268, 1277 and 1279).

The later owner, Count Eberhard the Illustrious, had collected a large part of their goods after the downfall of the Staufers, which had already been reclaimed in 1273 by King Rudolf I of Habsburg. The greedy Count Eberhard refused, which meant that he had to cede his castles Hohenwittlingen and Rems in 1286 as a bargaining chip for abandoning his territorial politics.

On November 19, 1298, Count Eberhard received Remseck Castle back in gratitude for the support of Albrecht of Austria in the dispute with Adolf von Nassau. Together with the castle, he received the town of "Niuwe Waiblingen", today's Neustadt, built by King Adolf of Nassau.

Count Eberhard stayed at Remseck Castle in April 1302 and January 1303. In 1310, when Eberhard was outlawed by Emperor Heinrich VII, Rems Castle was destroyed. In 1436 it was repaired by Hans Nothaft. In 1576 everything was demolished except for a tower. This then collapsed completely in 1792. Remains can still be seen today.

In 1842 the then Major and later Colonel Franz von Grimm (Commander of the Ludwigsburg Artillery Regiment) had a neo-Gothic palace built on the site of the old castle. In 1861, von Grimm was sentenced to a long prison term for seduction into adultery, although he repeatedly protested his innocence. All pleas for clemency were rejected and the castle had to be sold.

The castle became the property of Count Edzard Wilhelm Alko zu Inn- und Knyphausen from Celle, who moved into the castle in 1863 with his young wife, Countess Fanny, née Freiin von Gemmingen-Guttenberg-Bonfeld. After the early death of Count Edzard, the countess lived in the castle alone until her death in 1924. Count Franz Tido Folef Unico zu Inn- und Knyphausen inherited the castle and moved in with his wife Ida. After the death of Count Franz, Count Anton zu Inn- und Knyphausen lived with his family in Remseck Castle until 2003.
