Construction history of the Parish Church of Saint James the Greater Haasdonk:
The high choir and the section up to the pulpit were built from 1844 to 1847 and from 1868 to 1872 the last section and the tower were built.

What came before:
Before 1150, the faithful of Haasdonk were dependent on the church of Melsele. In 1150, Haasdonk became an independent parish. Nothing is known about the first chapel. The church building from the first half of the 15th century has also left few traces. After the iconoclasm, a new church was built, which was regularly expanded in the following years and centuries, culminating in the construction of a baroque facade in 1719. In the nineteenth century, the church had become too small and the current neo-Gothic church was built in the period from 1844 to 1847 (high choir of the parish church and the part up to the pulpits) and from 1868 to 1872. In the twentieth and early 21st century, the church was thoroughly restored. Until 1965, the parish belonged to the Temse deanery. Afterwards to the Beveren deanery.

The parish church is still in use for Roman Catholic worship.
