Highest peak in the canton of Ticino, called "Adula" there. Thanks to its height and its position towards the south, the Rheinwaldhorn offers a first-class view, which is compared to that from Monte Rosa. It is climbed accordingly often, not least because the normal routes do not present any great technical difficulties.
The shape of the Rheinwaldhorn is an irregular, four-sided pyramid with a summit slope running from north to south. To the south, towards Val Malvaglia, the least known side, a rock face breaks off steeply. The other three sides are more or less heavily glaciated: the broad, sweeping western flank of the Vadrecc di Bresciana, the much narrower one to the north with the craggy Läntaglet and the broad eastern flank with nameless snowfields down to the so-called "origin", the source of the Hinterrhein. The most common ascents from the three SAC huts Adula, Länta and Zapport lead over these flanks in both summer and winter.
