The church was built in the 11th century and is named after Saint Mengold, a martyr from the 9th century.

Mengold was the 9th Count of Huy and was venerated in the region.
The Église Saint-Mengold was built in the Romanesque style and has been rebuilt and expanded several times over the centuries. These adaptations have resulted in the church today having a mixture of different architectural styles, including Romanesque and Gothic elements.
The high tower dates from the end of the 15th century.
The church of Saint-Mengold was officially desacralized in 1979.

This Gothic church was built on the site of an older place of worship and is said to date largely from the second half of the 15th century, as stated on the truss of the tower.
The church became detached from the adjacent houses around 1897. It was restored at the beginning of the 20th century.
The floor is covered with numerous gravestones that testify to the enthusiasm that the wealthy inhabitants of Huy had for this church, which also houses the tomb and later the funerary monument of Saint Mengold. However, the church is no longer accessible.
Classified as a monument on 1 August 1933.
