The Eider Bridge near Friedrichstadt, one of the oldest and most beautiful bridges over the Eider, was completed in 1916 and connects Friedrichstadt in North Friesland with St. Annen in Dithmarschen. This impressive steel structure is a combined road and bascule bridge that has a total length of 245 meters and a clearance height of 5.60 meters at medium high water.

The bridge is not only an important transport structure, but also an architectural highlight of the region. It was designed by the architect Friedrich Voß, who is also known for building the canal bridges on the Kiel Canal. With its striking arches, the bridge is visible from afar and is a popular photo subject. In 2009, the bridge served as the backdrop for the ZDF melodrama “Farewell in the Night”.

For cyclists and hikers, the bridge is an ideal starting point for tours along the Eider and through the surrounding marsh landscapes. The Eider Bridge Lock Cycle Tour, a popular route, leads over the bridge and offers impressive views of the river and the surrounding nature.
