The Forstwerderbrücke, popularly known as the "Katzenbuckelbrücke", is an arched bridge made of reinforced concrete that connects the Trothaer Saaleufer at the Trotha Weir with the Saaleinsel Forstwerder (nature reserve). The bridge was necessary to replace a previously existing ferry connection to the island. For capacity reasons, this was no longer sufficient when a river bathing facility (open-air swimming pool using the Saale) was built on the island in the 1920s.

The pure pedestrian bridge measures a span of 47 meters and a height of 6.70m at the apex and leads over the Mühlgraben, a tributary of the Saale.

Known from my childhood in the GDR, I have since discovered and climbed it again on weekends. You have a safe feeling when crossing.
I found the steps interesting: the higher you climb, the length of the tread increases, but not the height of the step.
Standing at the top, looking west, you have a good view of the former Cröllwitz paper factory with the ever-rushing weir. The Trothaer lock (Saale river kilometer 89.20) is unfortunately not visible from the bridge on the eastern side of the island of Forstwerder.
