The Veenhuser Church is one of the oldest churches in East Frisia. Around 1290 the hall church was built after a change of location with the help of stones from the previous church in what was then the center of Veenhusen.
In the course of the Reformation movement, the congregation turned to the new creed in 1524 and Dutch became the language of the church. At that time the church still had a free-standing bell tower, which was replaced by a tower that was attached to the church in 1869. With the advancing colonization of the moor, Veenhusen developed stringently towards the east, so that the church is now on the western edge of the town, which may be confusing at first glance.
