The honey factory was built in 1906 as a margarine factory for the Mohr company from Altona. Comparatively harmless products were manufactured here, far away from dangerous chemicals or toxic fumes. The fats were stirred and bottled on the ground floor, while new types of margarine were developed in the laboratory on the first floor. Management, accounting and secretaries sat at the top - real multilevel marketing! The building was one of the first on the Vering Canal and is now a monument - the last almost completely preserved factory ensemble there.
A variety of cultural events have taken place in the honey factory since 1979. Originally planned as an industrial area, chimneys soon started smoking everywhere along Kanalstrasse - Wilhelmsburg's west was on its way to becoming an industrial heartland. The Gieseke honey company only moved into the building after the end of the Second World War and gave it its melodious name. A few years later, a completely different kind of production began here: culture! Since then, the HONIGFABRIK has been the district cultural center with a history as sweet as its name in Wilhelmsburg."
