This scenic lush-green view across the enormous Pedro tea estate in northeast Nuwara Eliya is a favourite! The neatly pruned tea bushes combine with the delightful rolling-hill landscape, trees, distant mountains and the nearby hilltop tea factory to give a scene that is typically Sri Lankan!

The Pedro tea estate is one of the oldest and largest tea estates in Sri Lanka. It produces a type of light tea that is rated as one of the finest teas in the world. Remarkably its tea factory still uses the same well-maintained machinery that was installed back in the 19th century. It is also notable that the Pedro tea estate occurs where James Taylor, the father of Ceylon’s tea industry, planted his first tea bushes in Ceylon.

It is delightful to walk past this extensive tea estate, to admire its fine setting, and to reflect on the historical significance and longevity of the happenings here.
