    The entire historic old town is under special state protection as a monument reservation. Because of its townscape, Loket has often been praised as the Bohemian Rothenburg. In addition to the town wall, the Elbogen Castle (Hrad Loket) is particularly worth seeing.

        The city fortification system in Loket was built as early as the 13th century. In the 17th century, the fortifications were expanded to include baroque bastions, which protruded outside the actual wall and thus made it possible to fire on the enemy at the foot of the wall without endangering one's own archers. It is estimated that the walls were up to 5 meters high in places and about 1.5 meters wide. The demolition of the main gate of the city, which was part of the so-called Lower Castle, together with the construction of the Chain Bridge meant the end of the centuries-long isolation of the city of Loket by the armor of the walls. The fortification system had lost its purpose, so the city council decided to remove it in 1850. Parts of the walls were sold to the owners of the neighboring properties and used as building material. The renovation of the city walls did not begin until the 1970s.
