"Herzauer Hannes" rest area

This is what the small Wiesental valley on the other side of the stream (Mörsdorf district) is called in Mastershausen. It takes its name from the mill operator Johann von Herzenau, who ran a small mill at the north end of the valley at the beginning of the 19th century. Unfortunately there are no more remains of the mill, only the location is clearly visible. Herzau's Hannes was an impoverished nobleman and known as a strong man. He picked up the grain from the farmers in Sosberg and Mastershausen and carried it on his back to the mill and afterwards as flour, because there was only a beaten track and no way to get here. After a few years he started to build a path to the Käulchen (towards Mastershausen and Sosberg). That ruined him financially. He left the mill around 1830 and emigrated to America.
