In 1628, during the Thirty Years' War, the imperial general Wallenstein stayed in the town of Angermünde. Among other things, he wrote a letter to the citizens of Stralsund, demanding that they surrender their town. The house on the market square, where Wallenstein lived at the time, no longer exists. After 1712, the two-story house at Markt 23, which still stands today, was built on the same site, making it one of the oldest houses in the town.

In 1995/96, the new owners renovated the building from the ground up, using traditional techniques and materials. In the early 2000s, the "Wallenstein" restaurant opened in the house. Since 2017, the Indian restaurant "Taj Mahal" has been located here. However, the building is still affectionately called "Wallenstein" by local residents.
