For the visit of the monastery admission is required (adults € 4). Bicycles are prohibited on the monastery grounds and may not be pushed. In front of the monastery there is a parking space.

The monastery is located on a hill above the Rems Valley. Founded in 1102 by the Hohenstaufen dynasty as a family burial site, the Benedictine monastery flourished in the late Middle Ages. Currently owned by the state, the entire complex can be visited.

There's much to see here: the church, cloister, farm buildings, and monastery garden, surrounded by a completely preserved circular wall. Very charming.

We had something special planned today. We started in Plüderhausen and at 10.1 km we found ourselves in front of the monastery entrance and were immediately surprised to find that we had to pay for admission. You can't even enter the inner courtyard for free! So outrageous! I once heard that many, many people pay church tax, which benefits such institutions. Of course, we turned around immediately and declined.

Just a tiny tip: The Adelberg Monastery, not far away, doesn't charge for the inner courtyard.

We continue our historical journey through time at Lorch Monastery. It is located on a mountain above the Rems Valley and is truly romantic. As soon as you pass through the gate, you can sense the power and tranquility of this special place. The Hohenstaufen family founded this monastery and made it their private monastery. Its cultural heyday was in the Middle Ages. Valuable manuscripts were written here, including the famous Lorch choir books. Our pace slows as we look, marvel, enjoy, and rejoice in the beautiful grounds and the highlights of the monastery architecture. As always, Karl is captivated by the monastery garden. Finally, we enter the room with the monumental Hohenstaufen panorama, and time stands still around me. Bold colors, clear, vibrant figures, and a wealth of details bring the history of the Hohenstaufen family to life and captivate me. The artist has created a true masterpiece here. Time stands still, and you just want to look. Here you can forget everything and immerse yourself in the Middle Ages. Shouldn't we all pause and enjoy the moment?
