Solidarity in diversity is wonderfully expressed, especially in Winterswijk and its districts. Winterswijk is a municipality, but at the same time, both the village and each farming community have their own unique character. And it is precisely this connection between the village and the farming communities that makes Winterswijk so special. So special, in fact, that the municipality deserves a lasting memorial in the form of nine works of art, one in each farming community and one in the center of Winterswijk. These are the Freedom Trees, which were placed at nine locations in Winterswijk in 2022 and 2023. This completes the puzzle, which literally consists of the heart of each tree.
Here in Ratum stands one of the Freedom Trees. The brass band is incorporated into the tree, as the brass acts as a mouthpiece, connected to a horn by twisted pipes. The logo is carved using waterjet technology and adorns the top of the inlet, directly below the glass plate.
