The chapel was built in 1822/23 by the owners of the Auergut, Simon and Maria Scharwöger, with the treasure left behind by French refugees who never picked it up.

The chapel was privately owned until after the First World War, but there were frequent changes of ownership. When the last owner, Mrs. Lackner, also got into great financial difficulties, someone wanted to buy the chapel and convert it into an urn grove. To prevent this, the band association was founded in 1925. The purpose of the association was originally to obtain the financial means to purchase the Auer Chapel and to ensure the preservation of the chapel in any case. The purchase was made by the chapel association in 1926. According to the current statutes, the responsible local priest is the chairman.

In the years 1980 - 1985, extensive renovation work was carried out both outside and especially inside, and numerous restorations were carried out. In 1997 the chapel received a new organ, whose sounds now regularly delight church visitors.

In 2017 the roof structure and the tower were renewed and the external facade was renovated.
