Alt Rehse initially belonged to the Premonstratensian monastery of Broda, before 22 different owners subsequently owned the village, situated on Lake Tollense.

In 1934, the estate and park were expropriated and acquired by the Hartmannbund, which, at the request of the Reich Medical Leadership, had the Führerschule of the German Medical Association built here and took possession of the estate. The old village was demolished except for the church, the school, the rectory, and a cottage, later the village pub. In the following period, up until 1939, 22 Low German-style half-timbered houses with thatched roofs were built. Each house bore the year of construction after the Nazis came to power and the name of a German Gau (district) in the doorframes. Teaching continued until January 1943, while the estate produced goods for the Führerschule and the Reich Chancellery.

Alt Rehse is a village and district of the town of Penzlin on the western shore of Lake Tollense. The village ensemble is a rare example of village architecture during the Nazi era, architecturally and historically unique in Germany.
The village is of Slavic origin; after the Germanic inhabitants withdrew during the Great Migration, the medieval tribes of the Redarii and Tollenser from the tribal association of the Wilzen lived here, who later united in the Liutizen League. The name "Rehse" may be derived from the Old Slavic language and mean "place by the water."

Alt Rehse was first mentioned in 1182 as "reze" in a confirmation document by Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw I for the possessions of the Broda Monastery.
In 1945, the Red Army evacuated the population and used the area until October 1947. In the search for written documents, numerous books were confiscated from the village, including the church registers.
