Affing is an ancient cultural place.” Whoever says that should know, because his family has lived here for almost 200 years. Marian Freiherr von Gravenreuth, owner and lord of Affing Castle, was born in Augsburg in 1949. He spent almost his entire childhood in the castle. He proudly says: “I went to elementary school in Affing and was here for the first ten years of my life.” After that he had to go to boarding school. In 1982, after his father died, he returned.

Affing Castle is a former moated castle located at Schlossplatz 1 in Affing, a municipality in the Swabian district of Aichach-Friedberg. As a Hofmarkschloss (a castle with a royal court), it was the seat of the Hofmark Affing (a court of the princes of Affing). The castle is a protected architectural monument.

The Lords of Affing were first mentioned in 1040. The Hofmark Affing had been owned by a number of different owners since the 14th century. In 1682, the property passed to the Barons von Leyden, and in 1816, Count Maximilian Anton von Leyden sold the Hofmark Affing to Karl Ernst von Gravenreuth. The Iglhof estate also passed into his possession.

On the site of the present castle, a castle previously stood. It was burned down in 1462 by Margrave Albrecht Achilles of Brandenburg and rebuilt by Wolfgang von Waldeck († 1483). The previous building was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. Johann Baptist Freiherr von Leyden (electoral vice-chancellor of Munich), who had acquired the Hofmark in 1682, had the palace rebuilt starting in 1694. It was destroyed by fire on October 16, 1927, and rebuilt in its original form by Oswald Bieber in 1928.

Affing Castle is a former moated castle in the Affing district of the municipality of the same name in the Aichach-Friedberg district, Bavaria. It served as the manor house of the Hofmark Affing and is now a protected architectural monument.

            History:
The origins of the castle date back to the 12th century. After several changes of ownership, Karl Ernst von Gravenreuth acquired the Hofmark Affing in 1816. Under his family, the castle was extensively renovated and expanded. In 1928, the castle was badly damaged by a fire, but was later rebuilt in its original style.

            Architecture:
The castle is a three-story, block-like building with a tent roof and dormer windows. The southern entrance front is characterized by a narrow central projection. A spacious, walled castle park from the 19th century extends around the castle, harmoniously complementing the overall picture.

            Current use:
The castle is privately owned by the von Gravenreuth family and is not open to the public. However, every year in December a well-known Christmas market takes place on the estate grounds, attracting visitors from the region.
