Not only the castle park, but also the agricultural and village areas around the Kalkum moated castle are designated as the "Schwarzbachaue landscape conservation area". The castle park, which faces west, was laid out in the form of a large semicircle in the English landscape style around 1810 by the Düsseldorf garden architect Maximilian Weyhe.
