    Mengshausen is a district of the market town of Niederaula in the East Hesse district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg. It lies south-east of the main town in the Waldhessen region.
    Mengshausen lies at the foot of the Mengshäuser Kuppe with its observation tower, which rises to 473 m above sea level. Here is the ground monument Burgstall Wallenfels.
    In 1003 the place was first mentioned as belonging to the Eherinevirst wildlife sanctuary district. At that time the village was called Mengingozeshuson. The center of the village is the church. The building, which is essentially Gothic, has been a house of prayer for the Protestant community since the Reformation. Today's hall church with a rectangular choir and a choir tower is a new building from the 17th century, which underwent various conversions and renovations in the 18th and 20th centuries. The church was first mentioned in a document in 1520. Building inscriptions on the bearing beam of the roof truss and on the former west door bear the dates 1623 and 1624. In the 1980s, a technical extension was built on the west side of the church.
    The German marksman Manuela Schmermund trains in the Schützengilde Mengshausen. As a wheelchair user, she won a medal in air rifle shooting from ten meters at the last Paralympics: Gold in 2004 in Athens, silver in 2008 in Beijing and silver in 2012 in London.
