This cycle path does not run along the Ilmenau but at the Lösegraben. This serves to control the water level of Ilmenau in the city. It has its present form since the end of the 19th century, before it was more a small stream.

The bike / footpath lets you drive directly below the Willy-Brandt-Strasse directly at the Lösegraben.
