😎Like the Zollelbe, the Taube Elbe was formed as a result of silting up of the Elbe in or east of Magdeburg. The course of the river changed repeatedly until bridge building and river regulation work in the 18th century increased the accumulation of sand and gravel, so that the island of Großer Werder was formed. Of the three river branches, the Stromelbe, the Mittelelbe and the Alte Elbe, the Mittelelbe had previously been the main stream. However, this then shifted to the Stromelbe, the city-side of the three branches. The Mittel- or Taube Elbe silted up and only formed blind oxbows. After the Taube Elbe had completely silted up in places, it was partially dredged again when the Rothehornpark was created around 1900. A section of the Tauben Elbe was widened in the park by 1908 and the Adolf-Mittag-See was created.
