The water tower on Viersener Straße, also called Neuer Wasserturm, is one of the landmarks of Mönchengladbach. It was completed in 1909 after two years of construction and inaugurated on 14 November 1909, the construction cost amounted to 216,000 gold marks.

The tower has a height of 51 meters and is located north of the city center on one of the main arterial roads to Viersen. He suffered little damage during the Second World War.

The water tower has two tanks for drinking water supply to the city center and the northern districts of Mönchengladbach.
