      Poręba Wielka (Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Oświęcim County), a small town, originally a village, was founded in 1285 and named Sępnia.
      Only the subsequent owners, the Porębski family of the Kornicz coat of arms, gave their estate the name (at that time) Poremba.
      In 1840, the then-owner of the estate, Ignacy Bobrowski, built a palace in the eclectic style with neo-Gothic and Moorish elements.
      The palace was designed by Franciszek Maria Lanci, known for his reconstruction of the Kossakowski Palace in Warsaw and the castle in Będzin, among other works.
      The building was extremely simple, yet richly decorated with numerous architectural details – today, unfortunately, we can only "admire" the lamentable result of the 1958 reconstruction.
      Artur Grottger was a frequent guest at the palace in Poręba Wielka, where he painted his famous series of paintings entitled "War," dedicated to the January Uprising.
