    “Tannerl” pilgrimage church

The “Tannerl” pilgrimage church stands in the middle of the forests of Prince Thun & Taxis. It has long been part of the parish of Arrach.
Around 1685, a woman from Falkenstein discovered a miraculous image behind the oven of her relative, the bricklayer Bernhard Fleischmann, who lived in Wörth on the Danube. It was an old Ecce-homo bust. The woman warned the owner to hang this image on a public path for veneration. So he made his way to Falkenstein. He hangs the miraculous image on a small pine tree near the Pönnhof, which still existed at the time. Whereby the pilgrimage to “devotion and veneration of God began with this Ecce homo picture”.
With the help of donations, a small wooden chapel with an altar was built in 1694 to house the image. In 1729 the chapel was built of stone. In addition to the pilgrimage chapel, there was also a farm that belonged to the Count of Toerring.
A bloody event took place in the farm in April 1809. Six soldiers from the French army under Napoleon wanted to rob the then tenant Georg Pohmann. But Pohmann fought back and stabbed all six intruders. On August 4, 1905, the wasteland burned down and was never rebuilt. Only the small pilgrimage church of the Scourged Savior remained.
Today's pilgrimage church was built in 1949 at the instigation of Pastor Hofstetter; the old church had already fallen into disrepair at that time.
In the choir altar there is the figure of grace, a half-figure of the suffering Savior. The small wooden figure comes from the 17th century. It is popularly known as “Our Lord of the Tannerl”. On both sides of the altar there are baroque figures of St. Joachim and St. Anna. In 1988 the church was renovated by the Arrach parish. The parishioners made the renovation possible through donations and voluntary work. Since the renovation there has also been a figure of the Mother of God in the pilgrimage chapel. It was provided on loan by the Rettenbach parish. The Princely House of Thurn and Taxis had the large cross renovated in 1988.
The church is 11.5 meters long and 6.9 meters wide. The tower height is 11 meters. The bell in the tower weighs 50 kg. The bell was created in 1949 by the Straubing caster Anton Götz.
