        The Langschede Ruhr Bridge, a girder bridge made of prestressed concrete, was completed in 2000. It replaces the previous bridge from 1913, which unexpectedly collapsed after the new bridge was completed, damming the Ruhr. The rubble of the collapsed bridge was quickly removed to reopen the river.

        Langschede, the town where the Ruhr Bridge is located, was an independent municipality in the Fröndenberg district until 1967 and was incorporated into the city of Fröndenberg on January 1, 1968 by the law reorganizing the Unna district. Today Langschede is known for its striking buildings such as the Schoppe House, a defensive tower in the garden area and the “Old Langschede Train Station”.

        The Langschede Ruhr Bridge plays an important role in the local infrastructure and serves not only for traffic, but also as an attractive point for cycling tours and hikes along the Ruhr. The modern bridge and historical surroundings of Langschede offer an interesting combination of new technology and traditional culture.
