    The heralds at Bremen City Hall are free-standing sculptures of two armored knights on horseback. The groups of figures, which are slightly larger than life and embossed in copper, flank the east portal of the old Bremen town hall. They are traditionally referred to as "Heralds".       The Munich sculptor Rudolf Maison, who had already designed the Teichmann fountain for Bremen, created two horsemen for the Reichstag building in Berlin in 1896[2], which flanked the entrance to the German exhibition hall at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900. The copper-embossed sculptures were made by G. Knodt in Frankfurt. In Paris they were seen by the Bremen-born banker John Harjes,[3] who lived there and bought them and donated them to his hometown. In 1901 a location was found: the southeast portal of the Bremen City Hall, where they were erected on 30 September 1901.

      During the Second World War the sculptures were moved to an air raid shelter. In 1959 the heralds were initially avoided being re-erected in front of the Gothic portal, as the historicist sculptures were no longer entirely contemporary even at the time they were created. Instead, they were discreetly placed on the oak avenue in the park of the Egestorff Foundation. Only in 2003,
