A unique creation of its kind, the hydro-chronometer in the center of Piazza di Fondo is built entirely by hand.
It consists of two distinct and connected mechanisms, made to work by water: the first (hydro-chronometer) is responsible for measuring time, the second is intended to operate the alarm, able to mark the hour and a half with operation repeatedly.
The two mechanisms are positioned in the central area of the turret.
In the upper part of the turret there are the astronomical mechanisms and the quadrature wheels that activate the hands of the four quadrants, which represent:
1. the hours and minutes
2. the appearance and days of the moon
3. the calendar with indication of the day of the month and of the week
4. the month and the position of the sun in the zodiac.
In the lower part of the turret there are the two hydraulic wheels that operate the bell, the chime and the movement of the automaton
