The Broichhof chapel on the western edge of the Rodderberg crater is a foundation of the owners of the Broichhof, the couple Franz Josef Schaefer and Maria Christina Kretz. The chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows was built in the second half of the 19th century from field bricks and is connected to the Broichhof via a chestnut avenue. In the apse of this chapel there is a depiction of Our Lady of Sorrows called "Pieta" (the Broichhof Chapel is dedicated to her), with Mary holding her dead son on her lap. Probably the world's most famous depiction of a "Pieta" is in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and was created by the young Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564).
