between 1774 and 1778 a new stone Katerheide mill was built on the current site. Until 1894 windmill, afterwards powered by steam engine, petroleum, gas and electricity; vanes disappeared in 1916. The mill was restored and turned into a theater connected to the nearby cultural center.

This old windmill was built by the Lords of Hoogstraten in 1774. Around 1821, Prince Constantijn Alexander Jozef van Salm-Salm, third Duke of Hoogstraten, sold the mill to Baron Petrus De Caters, who owned a large part of the Katerheide. The Caerderheydemolen was a stone mill, i.e. the inhabitants of the Heerlijkheid Ekeren were obliged to have their grain ground here. In 1885 Baron de Caters sold the mill to doctor De Cnaep from Ekeren.

The last millers were the Petrus Bogaerts and Viktor Janssens families. During World War I, the blades disappeared and the brothers August and Louis Janssens continued to grind the grain mechanically. After World War II, the mill fell into disrepair. The municipality of Brasschaat bought the brick hull in 1961. For years it was discussed whether the mill should be restored or demolished. Ultimately, the hull with the added veranda, designed by architect Marc Van den Eynde, functioned from 1983 as a mini-cultural center.
