The Stör Waterway is the 22-kilometer-long connection from Lake Schwerin to the Müritz-Elde Waterway. It consists of the Stör River and the Stör Canal. The Stör River flows from Lake Schwerin, once very winding and partially straightened over the years, through the Stör Valley past the town of Consrade, right through Plate to Banzkow.

Around 1709, the former rafting canal between Banzkow and the Klinker Bach stream downstream was extended in a straight line. The Stör tributary was diverted and no longer used by shipping. The new waterway toward the Elde was named the "Stör Canal."

The lock, built in Banzkow in 1566, regulates the water level in Lake Schwerin. A new lock was required in 1926. From now on, the Störkanal goes straight through the meadow landscape and Waldlewitz, through the fish ponds nature reserve in the Lewitz, to the Elde triangle in the Müritz-Elde waterway.

The canal, laid out in 1706, comes from the Mürritz and Elde. From there, the canal and the Stör meander past small towns, meadows, forests and pastures to Raben Steinfeld, where it flows into Lake Schwerin. Also a nice route to drive.

As is typical on canals, you drive straight ahead without much variation. The path was bumpy in places, then rolled along as if by itself – totally different sections. The bushes weren't trimmed at the time and in some places they were so in the way that you could only drive one behind the other.

There are plenty of benches, and on the day we visited (a Saturday in July), it was extremely deserted.

This section wasn't the big highlight for me, but maybe a small one 😁
