    The Moldau (Czech Vltava pronunciation?/i, historically Wulda - from the Germanic Wilth-ahwa (meaning roughly: Wild-Ache, Wildach), which means something like "wild, torrential water"), also known as the "Bohemian Sea". , is the longest river in the Czech Republic and the largest tributary of the Elbe. The name is of Germanic origin and became Vltava after the Czech conquest in the 6th century AD (Migration Period). From the Czech Vltava, today's German term Moldau was only derived from the 11th century in the course of German-Czech language contact during the medieval eastern settlement.[4][5] It is 430 kilometers long and drains an area of 28,000 km² with an average flow rate of 151 m³/s at the mouth. At the confluence with the Elbe, the Vltava is longer and has more water than the latter and thus represents the hydrological main river of the Elbe river system.

    The Moldau is not to be confused with the river of the same (German) name in north-eastern Romania. the name of the Republic of Moldova derives.

        Not only is Prague a great city. The Vltava is a beautiful river with very nice cycle paths. There are also small beer gardens and stands for food and drink on the Vltava. We, two retired couples, were pleasantly surprised and made good use of them. The 1st week of May 2024 couldn't have been more beautiful.
