The railway open-air museum is located near the railway station in Pyskowice. It was built on the basis of a complex of buildings for the fan and wagon hall. The open-air museum is run by the Society for the Protection of Railway Monuments and the Organization of Open-air museums, which was established in 1998. The aim of the Society is to create, on the basis of the closed Pyskowice locomotive depot, an open-air museum of rolling stock, showing the history of the development of railways, which for a century and a half shaped and powered Silesian industry and trade. There are over 60 unique exhibits in the open-air museum, including: steam locomotives: Ol49, TKh, TKp, TKt48, Pt47, Ty2, Ty42, Ty43, Ty45, Ty51; diesel locomotives: Kö 0130, 409Da, Ls40, Ls60, Ls300, LDH70, LDH180; freight and passenger carriages, EW90 Electric Multiple Unit, EDK300 crane and others. The collection of steam locomotives was enriched, among others, by exhibits from Łazy and the closed open-air museum in Krzeszowice. The railway open-air museum in Pyskowice is the only such facility in Silesia.

In 1879, a railway line from Opole to Gliwice via Pyskowice was built. This allowed for the development of the city, which in turn was accompanied by the development of the railway junction. At the end of the 19th century, an engine house and a marshalling yard were built here (1898). Until the end of World War II, Pyskowice remained within the borders of Germany. At that time, the station was systematically modernized. A railway housing estate was also built. The so-called sand line with which sand was transported from Dzierżno (the line is still open today). After the war, one of the lines was converted to the Russian gauge standard.
