Originally built as a fortified church with a protective wall around the entire churchyard, the church went through many wars, destruction and conversions. The Roman Catholic Church of St. Jakobs d. Ä. in Marktschorgast is an old church. The partly Romanesque nave bears witness to its history as a fortified church. This figure is shown with a pilgrim's staff, a drinking gourd and the Bible in his hand. The shell was subsequently attached to the base.

For Jacob pilgrims there is a stamp for the pilgrim book in the anteroom. If you follow the Way of St. James, if you follow the path and turn right (follow the Way of St. James in the direction of Weißenstadt), you get a great view over the pond to the church.
