Lisberg Castle is one of the oldest surviving castles in Germany and is the only intact castle in the Steigerwald. Hans Fischer, who had been reviving the castle with passion and commitment since 1968, died in 2016, but sold the castle to the Bamberg auctioneer Johann Sebök while he was still alive.

The oldest building of the castle is the Romanesque keep with its dark court prison. The inner castle gate is also Romanesque. The adjoining women's house is Gothic, while the exterior of the Palas is Renaissance in around 1600. His most beautiful rooms are the huge castle kitchen and the knight's hall, which Otto Philipp von Münster had remodeled in 1776. In the last eleven centuries, the Frankish noble families of Thünfeld, von Giech, von Aschhausen, von Spleen and many others lived here.
