But which artist should be chosen? In a vote in the local newspaper, 70 percent of the 1,220 participants favored the model by the Winnenden artist Martin Kirstein. Nuss’ work shows “the climax of Gottfried’s eating of girls”. One Winnender complains about the "defacement" of the ancient city center: "As long as I'm alive, I won't set foot on this ruined market square again."
