          The Röschen mouth hole is the water outlet from the Rotschönberg tunnel, the main mouth hole of which is a few 100 m away. The drainage of the former mines of the Freiberg ore mining district through the 14 km long main tunnel (51 km with ancillary facilities) continues to function today. At the time of excavation (construction) from 1844 to 1877, the tunnel was the longest underground structure in the world and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Erzgebirge / Hornický region Krušnohoří. The centuries-old problem of water ingress in the pits around Freiberg, Brand-Erbisdorf and Halsbrücke was solved. However, the tunnel was unable to save (silver) mining in the long term. The (first) mining shutdown took place in 1913. However, it is still significant today for water regulation and as a training center for the Technical University of Freiberg and the drainage of its teaching and research mine.
