    A viewing platform with an access staircase of 4 meters high has been placed in the stream valley between Borger and Ees. The special steel construction was designed by the Marking Beekdal Eeser Voorste Diep working group in collaboration with landscape architect Pros ten Hove. The project was made possible by winning second prize in the Kern met Pit competition of the Nederlandse Heide Maatschappij, with the support of Arjen Bosch.

    The vantage point provides a connection between the brook valley in Flessenhals and Mandelanden, the ash landscape and the meandering brook Voorste Diep/De Hunze. The location of the vantage point was carefully chosen after consultation with the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, the Hunze en Aa's Water Board and Stichting Het Drentse Landschap. The management and maintenance of the viewpoint will be transferred to a newly established foundation.

    In addition to the viewpoint, there are other landscape elements, such as a boarding point, walking path, memorial and seating area. The vantage point will also have an educational function with an information panel that is being developed in collaboration with Geopark De Hondsrug. Work is currently underway on the boarding platform, a steel bench and the path to the water's edge with boulder stairs.

    The viewpoint is not yet open to the public, but will be opened in the future. Funding for the project comes largely from Leader, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, with additional funding and volunteer involvement. Further sponsorship is still welcome.
