This imposing castle once belonged to the Teutonic Order. Over the centuries and through successive successions, it became the property of the princes, and later the bishops of Varnia.

For about seven years, the castle served as the residence of the famous astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. The residence was then owned by his uncle Lukáš Vatzenrode.

Between 1858 and 1932, the palace was used as an orphanage and a hospital. World War II brought its own changes, transforming the castle into a prison for Soviet soldiers. Part of the immense palace is occupied by a 4-star hotel. The other part is a museum. The residence also has a spa. Here, you can combine business with pleasure. Enjoy your visit and have a wonderful stay!

Bishop's Castle in Lidzbark Warmiński - a castle from the 14th century located in Lidzbark Warmiński, one of the most valuable monuments of Gothic architecture in Poland.
The castle was built in the years 1350-1401. Construction works began a year after the seat of the Warmian bishops was moved from Orneta (German: Wormditt) to Lidzbark Warmiński (German: Heilsberg). The construction of the castle in its original shape was started by bishops, from Herman of Prague to Henryk Sorbom. The building was built on a quadrilateral plan with dimensions of 48.5 x 48.5 m. During the term of office of Bishop Sorbom, the castle courtyard was surrounded by two-story cloisters.
Built at the fork of the Łyna and Symsarna rivers, the castle was additionally protected by perimeter walls and moats from the south and east (the eastern moat parallel to Symsarna). The outer ward was located in the southern part of the castle. Access to the castle from the city was through the Mill Gate on the bridge over the Łyna to the northern outer ward, where a water mill was located. Then you had to drive along the western side of the castle through several gates to the outer ward on the southern side. The outer ward was separated from the castle proper by a dry moat. After crossing the bridge over the mentioned moat, it was possible to get to the castle courtyard through the gate located in the central part of the southern wing.
