Originally, the noble Monastery Sinnich - which was built at the beginning of the twelfth century - was a women's monastery of the friars of the order of the Saint Augustinians. The monastery depended on the nearby abbey of Rolduc. In the early thirteenth century, the monastery was destroyed by fire three times within the space of eighteen years.
