    Harpstedt was supplied with electricity from here until the end of the Second World War. The mill was in operation until 1962. Today the mill belongs to the hotel "Zur Wasserburg" as a restaurant and café. However, a non-operational water wheel still reminds us of the old days.               The Harpstedt Watermill, also known as the Hotel “Zur Wasserburg”, is a historic building in Harpstedt, Lower Saxony. Originally built in the 13th century as part of a moated castle, the mill has a long and eventful history. It was rebuilt in 1712 after extensive destruction in the Thirty Years' War. The mill originally had two grinding gears and water wheels, which were replaced by turbines in 1882 to generate electricity.

              Today the mill is part of the Lower Saxony Mill Route and a popular tourist destination. The building houses a hotel and was also a restaurant until 2022, but this has since closed. The historic structure of the mill, including the no longer functioning water wheel, remains a fascinating sight for visitors.
