    It is one of the five historic bridges over the old Turia riverbed and its construction dates from the late 16th century.
    In its time it was the path from the city to the sea, but after floods at the end of the 16th century, the original wooden bridge was destroyed and replaced by the one seen today.

      Those who roam the old river bed of the Turia also reach the bridge of the sea (Pont del Mar or Puente del Mar). It is the easternmost of the five historic bridges and was built in the late 16th century. The pedestrian bridge crosses the river bed diagonally.

      For centuries, the Pont de la Mar was the natural route from the city to the sea. After the flood of 1591 the destroyed simple wooden bridge was replaced by a stone construction. In 1933 the bridge was closed to traffic.
