Founded in 1856, it was the last still supporting mine in Dortmund.

In 1891 the two coal mines Fürst Hardenberg merged in Dortmund-Lindenhorst and Minister Stein.
As a result, Minister Stein was upgraded to a large shaft facility.
In 1926, a hammerhead winding tower was erected over shaft 4, which was then the first for two

In 1941, Minister Stein, with a subsidy of 3.67 million tons and 6820 employees, became the largest coal mine in the Ruhr area.
Minister Stein was shut down on March 31, 1987 as the last coal mine in Dortmund.

Minister Stein mine, founded in 1856 by Theodor Sprenger and Heinrich Grimberg, looks back on an eventful past and has many stories to tell. It was named after the Prussian reform minister Karl Freiherr vom Stein.

      Highlights of the pit :-)
      - **Architectural monument:**
The impressive hammerhead tower, a landmark of Evings, is registered as an architectural monument in the city of Dortmund's monument list.
      - **Innovations:**
In 1926, the first steel winding tower in Germany was opened here - a milestone in technology!
      - **Sad memories:**
A memorial commemorates 136 miners who died after a tragic explosion in 1925.

      **Did you know?**
      - When there was a significant water ingress in 1985, the problem was successfully solved despite major challenges.

      - In 1941, it was the largest mine in the Ruhr area. Unfortunately, it was shut down in 1986 due to unfavorable storage conditions. In March 1987, the gates of the mine finally closed and in 1988, demolition work on the coking plant and the mine began. Renovation work on the former mine site began in 1994. Not much of the surface facilities remains - even the striking gasometer had to be removed. Fortunately, the washhouses and the impressive hammerhead tower have been preserved. With its 62.4 meter height, the hammerhead tower served as a model for many of the double winding towers that were built later and impresses with its well thought-out construction.

The hammerhead tower is a piece of history of the Ruhr area.

One of the oldest mines in Dortmund, the Hammerkopf Tower looks quite impressive and gives an idea of the size of the former mine.
