    The approximately 530 -acre nature reserve "Hasenburger Bachtal" is located in the southwest of the city Lüneburg in the district of Lüneburg.

    It includes the Hasenburger Bach, the Südergellerser Bach and the Osterbach with their tributaries and lowlands to the mouth in the Ilmenau near the Red Lock and adjacent edge of the valley. The brook lowlands are characterized by a mosaic of differently used, often wet to wet meadows, pastures and fallow stadiums as well as by typical ruptured and alluvial forests. Especially near Heiligenthal, Böhmsholz and in the Hasenburger Switzerland natural beech and oak forests occur.

    As part of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH) area "Ilmenau mit Nebenbächen", the area has a special significance for nature conservation. Protective purpose is in particular the conservation and development of semi-natural, continuous rivers, natural deciduous forests, various habitats typical of low-lying and species-rich grasslands with their characteristic, z.T. endangered plant and animal species (such as otters and bullheads) and communities.

    In the east, the NSG LÜ 282 adjoins "Lüneburg Ilmenauniederung with zoo".
