    On a square plot, Guarini designed a sprawling building made of exposed brick. The central section of the Baroque west façade still retains its unusual design today. The undulating concave-convex-concave rhythm is inspired by Francesco Borromini's Roman church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane. Behind the curve is an elliptical tower. The main building surrounds a large courtyard. The former garden façade, in contrast, was rather plainly designed.

    The reconstruction continued even after the parliament's relocation until 1871. In particular, the former garden façade, and after the demolition of the garden walls, the new east façade, were redesigned. They were given an eclectic appearance with columns and pilasters made of white stone and red stucco.

        Palazzo Carignano (Palass Carignan in Piedmontese), full name Palazzo dei Principi di Carignano, is a historic building in the city center of Turin, a fine example of Piedmontese Baroque architecture.

        Together with Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madama it is part of the most important historical buildings of the city and, like these, it is part of the UNESCO Residenze Sabaude serial site. It was the historic seat of the Subalpine Parliament (1848-1861) and of the first Parliament of the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1864).

        On the ground floor, in the apartments called "di Mezzanotte", it houses the offices of the regional directorate of the Piedmont museums [1], while on the main floor the national museum of the Italian Risorgimento, reopened, after long restoration and rearrangement works, on 18 March 2011, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy [2].
