On April 6, 1891, the helmsman Fritz Schwenn from Burgstaaken received the imperial pilot license. His task as a pilot was from then on to guide ships through the narrow channels and shoals so that they could safely approach the harbor on Fehmarn.

Over a century ago - exactly on April 6, 1891 - in Burgstaaken, the helmsman Fritz Schwenn received the imperial pilot's license from the government president in Plön after successfully passing the exam. It was his job, as a sea and local expert and guide to the respective captain, to steer ships safely into a port on Fehmarn through narrow fairways, isthmuses and shallows. At that time it would not have occurred to him that his future apartment building at the harbor would one day become a sought-after hospitable domicile. The pilot's license has remained in the family to this day, in the third generation with Captain Fritz Schwenn, who opened the current restaurant-bistro “Lotsenhus” with his wife Pilar Schwenn in 1981. In 1998 the son Fritz Schwenn took over the restaurant, which he continues to operate after various renovations.
