The Wijngaardsberg is a hill on the edge of the Central Plateau, between Ulestraten and Meerssen, with a height of approximately 130 metres. To the northwest, southwest and southeast, the Watervalderbeekdal is located around the hill.

On the slopes of this hill are slope forests (Vliekerbos), in which there is a source area from which the Watervalderbeek rises. In the east, in a valley, lies the hamlet of Waterval.

History
Vine growing was practiced on this mountain since ancient times, which was first documented in writing in 968. The local Frankish queen, Gerberga, is said to have donated possessions to the Abbey of Reims in that year, including the Wijngaardsberg. It was the monks of the Proosdij in Meerssen who managed the vineyards. Until around 1800, wine was grown there. The French occupier closed the Proosdij and wine growing came to an end. The former terraces are still visible in the current slope forest.
