The crown pond is of natural origin. A moorland is said to have formed in this area. A drainage ditch was used to dry the moor so that it would be easier to prick the peat. In the past 100 years, the peat sting has developed into a small body of water that is increasingly silted up and overgrown. As early as 1914, the Kronenweiher was declared a natural monument.
